Entry requirements and routes

Students are required to possess a UK bachelors degree in any subject at 2:2 or above or equivalent qualifications. In addition students require knowledge of the seven foundation subjects of English Legal System, Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU Law (but see below specifically as to EU Law), Contract, Tort, Land Law, Equity and Trusts and Crime, which they can evidence through the successful completion of these modules on an LLB or equivalent, or a law conversion course or equivalent. Please note that successful completion of the SQE1 exam is also recognised as meeting this particular criteria. Pre-Course Study Required Absence of EU Law specifically is NOT a bar to entry, because its significance is now greatly reduced in the SQE1 syllabus, but students without any knowledge of EU Law will be directed at the start of the course to complete extra reading on the topic. Students who have not studied EU Law as part of their law degree, conversion course or equivalent will need to read chapter 10 of the University’s SQE1 Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU Law manual in order to have the requisite knowledge of this SQE1 topic before joining the programme.

Funding and support

DIFFERENT FUNDING: NOT THE STANDARD UNDERGRADUATE LOAN

CalmaLink needs to check this course’s funding before confirming it to you.

Student Finance England

Tuition fees: Different funding scheme

Maintenance: Different funding scheme

Postgraduate study has different funding, such as the Postgraduate Master’s Loan. It normally requires you to be under 60 at the start of the first academic year. An integrated master’s, PGCE or postgraduate healthcare course may follow other rules: the course needs checking.

For courses starting before 1 January 2027, the Tuition Fee Loan has no upper age limit. If you are 60 or over at the start of the first academic year, eligible full-time living-cost support is up to £4,582 in 2026/27, depending on household income.

Most courses starting on or after 1 January 2027 use the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE). You must be under 60 on the first day of the course to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan. At 60 or over, an additional living-cost loan may be available: we review this with you.

Previous study does not rule you out: it depends on what you studied, whether you received UK funding and the course. We review it with you.

Student Finance England makes the decision. We help you check. Official source

Attendance and English

To receive a Maintenance Loan you normally need regular in-person classes during the week. A course offering only weekend attendance does not normally meet these requirements. Before enrolling, confirm the timetable and any applicable exceptions with the provider and Student Finance England.

The provider will check that you meet the English requirements for this course, whether you are a Home or international student. Declaring your level does not replace their assessment.

Read the official attendance guidance

Academic coaching, study-skills, library and wellbeing support are available. Disability and Inclusion can discuss individual adjustments. Money and housing advice and scholarships/bursaries have separate eligibility rules. Confirm arrangements for your study mode.
