Your application
How to get your share code, step by step
A share code proves your immigration status (settled or pre-settled). You will be asked for it for Student Finance and your application. You can get it free in a few minutes.
In 30 seconds
- Get it on the official website View and prove your immigration status.
- You need your UKVI account and the identity document you used to apply for your status.
- The code is valid for 90 days. You can generate a new one whenever you need to.
- It is free.
What you need
- The passport or national identity card you used when applying for settled or pre-settled status (or the document linked to your account).
- Your date of birth.
- Access to the email address or mobile number on your UKVI account, to receive the verification code.
Step by step
- Visit gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status and select Start now.
- Sign in to your UKVI account using your document number and date of birth.
- Enter the verification code sent by email or text message.
- You will see your status. Choose the option to prove your status to another person or organisation and the most appropriate reason.
- Copy your share code and keep it together with its expiry date.
- Give it to whoever requests it (Student Finance, your university or CalmaLink), together with your date of birth.
Tip: take a screenshot of the code and its expiry date and upload it to your CalmaLink account. That way, you will not lose it.
If something goes wrong
- You have a new passport: update your details in your UKVI account before generating the code.
- The verification code does not arrive: check your spam folder or update the email address or mobile number on your account.
- Your status is not shown correctly: contact the EU Settlement Resolution Centre through GOV.UK.
